Testimonials
As an instructor I have had an opportunity to meet several people and work with their German language. Here is the feedback from some of those.
"I really enjoyed your German class. You come across as very genuinely enthusiastic and I find you have just the right mix of work and fun. …. You provide extra material for those who are interested and are always willing to correct any extra exercises the students bring to you. I also find you balance the amount of time the students express themselves versus yourself, the teacher, very judiciously."

"The class was very well run in terms of content. The material in the handouts was clearly explained and any difficulties cleared up to everyone's satisfaction. We dealt with some
(I thought) tricky grammar - and expressions too - and these were consistently explained with patience and good humour. Uma also put us in touch with some interesting - and relevant websites, all of which added important material to the course. There was an excellent atmosphere with a lot of very helpful conversation in German. It was an excellent class, taught by someone who very clearly knows the subject and how to teach it."

" I really appreciated that Uma kept talking to us almost all the time in German, but at the same time encouraged everyone to speak up. She tried to touch upon all aspects of German language: speaking, grammar and reading. On top that, Uma was always enthusiastic and available for students to ask questions, but she was also firm in carrying out the task of a day. And I liked that very much."

"As a teacher of beginners in German, Uma has the right mix of authority and enthusiasm to give her students the confidence and incentive to learn the language. Uma makes what appears complex and difficult in German comprehensible by conveying the plain logic of its words and sentence structures; she also knows when we should simply learn what is too intrinsically German to explain: Das ist Deutsch, she would say, "That is German." Her knowledge of the language is as deep as it is sensible, and she taught us how to begin to swim in it without drowning."

"After forty years of teaching English as a Foreign and Second Language, my first project in retirement was to become a student again and take a beginner German course. I had the luck to have Uma as my instructor, and to my critical eye, she more than met my expectations for a good language teacher. From the first hour of class, the students were engaged in meaningful dialogues in German. It seemed every fifteen minutes we had a new activity and so the time flew by. Grammar was introduced in a non-intimidating way, and all the class quickly absorbed some quite difficult structures. The class age ranged from eighteen to sixty-seven, but we quickly became a happy family headed by a warm-hearted, enthusiastic Uma."

"I had the privilege of having Uma Kumar as my teacher and I found her excellent. She made everyone feel totally at ease and her knowledge of the German language was incredible. Considering I drove out twice a week from Abbotsford, I found myself excited to go to class. Uma is one of the best language instructors I've had and I've been studying German for four years in the University system."

"I really enjoyed my German class with Uma Kumar. She was very knowledgeable about the subject and very friendly and respectful towards her students. She provided great feedback in a positive and constructive manner. I also like the way she organized the classes -- there was good variety in terms of oral and written work, as well as using taped material to enhance our exposure to the German language. I would highly recommend any class that she teaches."
